Provincial Tournament, 2001

Wind gusts made the outdoor provincial Takraw Championships a little more challenging than usual today, but overall it was a good day for Kick Volleyball. Just two teams from Saskatoon and two from Regina in the Men's division squared off in a Round Robin event to decide the top players to go to the nationals, which will be a feature event of the Edmonton Heritage Festival, August 4 - 6. It all came down to Regina Riot and Saskatoon Lightning. Though Regina beat Saskatoon in their previous tournament, today it was Saskatoon lightning that came out on top with Gold, winning in two straight sets, 21-20 and 21-16. With the Riot receiving Silver, they, along with Saskatoon Lightning will represent Saskatchewan in Edmonton this summer. Regina's B team got Bronze, beating Saskatoon Legends in two straight sets, 21-14 and 21-12.

An extra net was set up and others who came to watch also gave Takraw a try and had a blast! Look for a Takraw Net near you this summer and go ahead and try it … just for kicks!
